Overview
The Goddess Fund was created with one clear and
compelling goal: to eliminate the impact of stroke in
women's lives, the lives of their families and society at
large.
Lynn B. Goddess founded The Hazel K. Goddess Fund for
Stroke Research in Women, also known as The Goddess Fund, in
April 2000 as a legacy to her mother Hazel K. Goddess, who
died of complications from stroke. Lynn's personal journey
in meeting the demands and challenges of her mother's
illness dramatizes the overwhelming gap that exists between
perception and reality when it comes to stroke in women.
Stroke is a "low profile killer". People do not realize
that it kills more women than breast cancer and AIDS
combined. They don't know how to recognize the warning signs
of a stroke or how to take timely action. They are unaware
of the options for acute treatment or rehabilitation. And
the medical community is grossly underfunded for critical
research.
The singular focus of The Goddess Fund, a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit organization, is to address critical issues
specific to stroke in women, including research, prevention,
treatment, education, and advocacy.
No other organization, public or private, is devoted to
this urgent, highly specific cause.
